Writing for Water

BPM's bid writing team were  brought in to aid a newly formed JV partnership between two civil engineering and two drainage contractors based in London and the home counties. BPM were tasked to complete a bid submission for a new Thames Water maintenance framework agreement covering their entire network, this also included the extra drainage Thames Water would become responsible for after changes to public and private sewer adoption. The bid had to be completed in a very short time period of three weeks, therefore BPM had to work both efficiently and intensively to ensure the submission was completed on time and to a sufficiently high quality.

After completing the submission BPM were also involved in creating and writing an oral presentation for the bid, when Thames Water requested this from our clients. This bid went has been successful at the first two stages.

Road to Improvement

BPM's quantity surveying team completed a highways take off, creating a bill of quantities to the 'Method of Measurement for Highway Works' This was undertaken to aid a client in costing for a tender submission. The tender was for the completion of 278 highway works to service a new large housing development in the Basingstoke area. The scheme involved the construction  of the road, putting in place storm and foul sewers including three large culverts, all signage and markings and two mousebridges.

Building the Dream

Over the last month BPM have helped both families and contractors get started on own home developments.

BPM works for local contractor. Based in East Anglia the contractor was invited to submit a bid to construct a new 2 story 4 bed house outside Peterborough. BPM completed this tender return on behalf of the client producing a schedule of works and bill of quantities from the provided tender information. These where then used to produce an estimated tender sum and draft programme.

This process involved a high level of communication between BPM, the architects, engineers and client as the tender information was limited in detail. After the bid was submitted our client entered into negotiations.

BPM represents home developers. We where tasked by a client with bringing together a tender package for the construction of a large 4 bed new build dormer style bungalow, located just outside  Greater Manchester. In the initial stages  of the process BPM first issued a PQQ to establish the suitability of the nominated contractors to be able to undertake the project. This was followed by the main tender package which involved bringing together all the proposed design and contract information from the architect, engineer and client. The process also involved the creation of a bill of quantities from the information collected. This was then issued as part of the tender package for the contractors to put costs against. This enabled the various submissions to be accurately compared and analysed, with a detailed report being produced advising the client on the various advantages and disadvantages of each submitted bid. BPM put together all the contract documentation and supervised the contract signing.

Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009

As of the 1st of October the new Construction Act  2009 has come into affect, therefore all contracts signed after this date have to comply with all the changes detailed in the act. There are three main areas in which changes have been made, these are:

  • Adjudication
  • Suspension
  • Payment
